Student and Community Support Grants
Save Money with Us!
The Trent Central Student Association (TCSA) is a student union that represents all full-time undergraduate and all full-time consecutive education students at Trent University. The Central recognizes the costs associated with post-secondary education are prohibitive to many students, and as such, has many programs to help alleviate the financial burden on it's students.
Student Saver Program
The Central is proud to participate in the Student Saver Program. This program is run nation wide. The Student Saver Program allows for students to receive discounts ranging from 10% to 50% from participating businesses. Through the hard work of members of the student unions nation wide, businesses in food, health and beauty, sporting goods, clothing, and entertainment offer discounts to students who present their Student Saver Card. This valuable card can be found in the Student Handbook that is given to students when classes begin. Listings of local businesses, and those across Canada, that are participating in the program can be found in the Handbook with the card. For additional information, check out the bulletin board across from our office in Champlain or go to www.studentsaver.ca
International Student Identity Card
The International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is internationally recognized as proof of full-time student status. More than 70 countries world wide participate in this program. Whether you are travelling home or abroad, this card is a must!
At home, ISIC holders receive a 35% discount on VIA Rail travel, discounts on flights in Canada booked through Travel CUTS, a discounts on most major bus lines that operate within Canada.
Abroad, ISIC holders receive discounts on travel, accommodation, and entrance into historical and entertainment venues.
Only full-time students are eligible to apply for an ISIC. ISICs are offered free to members of the CFS (any member of The Central is also a member of the CFS). Full-time students who are not members of The Central, but would like to apply for an ISIC can pay a minimal fee for the card.
How to get the card:
- Come to The Central office in Champlain College. Be sure that you have some form of government issued photo ID as well as your current student card.
- If you have a photo of yourself such as a passport photo, we can do the card for you at that time.
- If you do not have a photo of yourself, we can take the photo for you, and you can return to the office the following Monday to pick up your card. There will be a minimal charge for The Central to produce the photo for you.
Consignment Book Sale Program
Do you have a used book that the Book Store won't buy back? Don't have the time to sell it? Bring it to The Central office, and we can sell it for you. The Consignment Book Sale Program allows students to place their used text books for sale on our shelves.
Students are able to place their books on consignment on our shelves for one year. The students also get to set their own price, so they can ask for as little or as much as they would like. If the book sells, the students receive a check for 85% of their asking price.
This is a great hassle-free way for students to sell their used books. It's also a great opportunity for students to buy used books for a good price.
GO Transit Ticket Sales
Starting on September 5th 2009, students can buy single, double, 10-ride and monthly passes for the Go Transit system at the Central office.
Go to Go Transit for the new Peterborough schedule.
ATM CashNgo machines
The Central operates three ATM CashnGo maschines on campus. Students can withdraw money in Ottonabee College near the cafeteria, in Champlain College near the Bookstore and starting with the new semester also in Blackburn Hall.
Student Health 101
Student Health 101 is an electronic Magazine covering a wide range of health and related issues from the prospective of college and university students, ranging from tattoos and piercing to nutrition, from healthy relationships to tips for academic success. The best thing about it is that it is developed by students from across North America including Trent Students. You'll see video clips and read articles produced by students for students so you can get a sense of what's going on in other schools across the continent. You might even see someone you know there! As a member university of Student Health 101 Trent University will provide the monthly digital publication dealing with all health-related matters and The Central will assist in creating Trent-focused pages in every edition.
The Orientation Issue can be seen by going to Orientation Issue and the monthly issues will be posted at Health101 so be sure to add it to your favourites.
While you're at it, would you please take a couple of minutes to complete the Wellness Survey on page three of the Orientation Issue. It will help us make sure we are on the right track with what gets covered.
